THE SITHS DISCOVERY PROGRAM is a summer enrichment programs for rising 9th-graders from low-income backgrounds and schools who take the SHSAT and score right below the cutoff. Students who complete the program successfully can enroll in a Specialized High School in September. In the spring, if and after a student takes the SHSAT the previous Fall, the NYC Public School System will contact students automatically if they are eligible to participate in a Discovery program. Discovery programs are for rising ninth grade students who take the SHSAT and score below the cutoff score. Program Location: Staten Island Technical High School, 485 Clawson Street, Staten Island, NY 10306

Program Duration: Monday, July 8, 2024 - Thursday, August 8, 2024

Days/Time: Monday thru Thursday – 9:00 am - 12:00 pm  There are no classes on Friday.

Program Format: 3 classes daily, conducted in-person at Staten Island Technical High School focusing on Math, Foreign Language, Study Skills, Social Emotional Learning and Peer-to-Peer Mentoring. Your daily summer program will be shared the week before the Summer Discovery Program begins, which will include the course subjects and your teacher’s contact information. There will be small homework assignments daily.

Expectations: Students enrolled in the Discovery Program are expected to be on time and present each day for the duration of the program (At least 90% attendance, at least 90% completion of work.)

Breakfast & Lunch: Available upon Entry and Dismissal

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD): SITHS is a BYOD - Bring Your Own Device school, where students will provide their own personal computer devices for use in the classroom (when physically in school) and at home for academic use. What Do I Need To Bring:

  • Pens, pencil a notebook and your personal mobile computer. You will need to bring your Personal Computer Device on all days (see BYOD below for more info). We will be setting up all devices on our network in preparation for usage this summer and starting in the Fall. Summer Reading Assignment:
  • Staten Island Technical High School believes very strongly in the social-emotional well being of our students. We have instituted assignment free breaks so that a break can be a reset! However, reading can be a GREAT way to relax, so this pamphlet gives you some of our English Department's favorite summer reads without any assignment attached.
