Scholarships

The 21st Annual Japan Center Essay Competition, sponsored by Canon USA, has extended the submission deadline to January 31, 2026.

The aim of the competition is to provide high school and college students with a unique opportunity to think creatively and critically about their lives by relating them to some aspect of Japan, thereby fostering broader horizons and a global citizenship mindset.

This award recognizes and supports youth leaders making exceptional contributions to environmental conservation in their communities. From climate change mitigation and biodiversity protection to environmental justice and food waste reduction, it honors young changemakers whose projects are actively protecting our planet. Winners will receive $5,000 to support their academic or professional development related to their conservation efforts.

Each year NPVA offers merit-based scholarships for students who are committed to volunteering and making a difference in their communities. Our scholarships are open to students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees.
