Special Opportunities

NYC Youth Leadership Councils (YLCs) are the place to make real change happen in your school, neighborhood, or community. Students ages 14-21 currently enrolled in high school or an equivalency program can join a YLC to partner with peer leaders and adult allies and take action on the issues that matter to you most. YLCs in all five boroughs need students like you to share your stories, passion, and ideas—you already have what it takes. Join a YLC and make a difference today!

Next week, all week there are events happening as part of NYC Jewelry Week. The events are all on Instagram Live and FREE. There is a unique assortment of speakers and artists presenting their designs.

Joint Employment Development Initiative “JEDI” Academy SITHS/UAU CDC CTE Program Sector Focus “SF” Paid Internship Program will be returning this year!!

Once again, the Staten Island Technical High School (SITHS) Career Development Center (CDC) is partnering with United Activities Unlimited (UAU) to offer a meaningful career development and summer internship program! IMPORTANT! This program is separate from The Work Learn Grow Internship that you learned about last week. You can apply to both of the programs. The JEDI Program is for students 16 or older by 7/1/21.

Our partners at the NYC Department of Buildings are currently recruiting CTE students for the next virtual Youth Leadership Council for Spring 2021. Students should have an interest in architecture, civil engineering, construction, mechanical engineering, sustainability, public safety, or public policy.

Selected students will participate in 10 virtual sessions every Wednesday @ 3:45PM - 5:00PM from Feb 2, 2021 to April 27, 2021 via GoToMeeting. They will receive a detailed curriculum on sustainability & construction safety from architects, civil & mechanical engineers, sustainability experts, and construction safety professionals. With the help of NYCDOB mentors, students will develop their own virtual presentations to representatives from numerous city agencies.

This program is a unique experience that allows CTE students to build their resume, network with professionals in the industry, and prepare themselves for future careers.
