Staten Island Tech Seniors Create OpportuniTeens Website

OpportuniTeens was created when co-founders Cynthia Lei and Yong Yan (Crystal) Liang wanted to increase student awareness in college and career readiness programs. They aim to supplement the schools’ efforts in promoting opportunities for students. They have a website that is a database of available internships, volunteering events, and other job opportunities.

With the unexpected pandemic, they saw that there was a need for virtual student programs over the summer and during the school year. Since starting, they have established an account on Instagram and Facebook to promote remote opportunities that students can participate in, and remain productive during this time. In August, they launched their flagship website ( dedicated to guiding students in their high school journey and beyond.

Encourage sophomores and juniors at your school to sign up for a chance to connect directly with college admissions representatives and current college students. They'll have a chance to explore colleges in a way that's not overwhelming, ask questions about topics they want to learn about, and take action on key college planning steps.

SITHS Student Builds SMART Mirror From Home

Even during quarantine Staten Island Tech ingenuity and creativity can't be stopped. Daniel Yadgarov, from the class of 2023, proposed a makerspace project last Spring to created a custom made SMART mirror that he has finally completed from home. This SMART mirror features a homemade wooden frame which was custom-cut and stained with polyurethane. The mirror is able to display text running across the screen controlled by program altered to display a variety of updates. These widgets include time, google calendar, a weather module (including a digital animation in accordance to the current weather), a news feed, as well as a phrase module. Daniel hopes to create more modules in the upcoming future. The entire budget for this project was around $300! We can't wait to see what else you can accomplish.
