A Message from Mr. Erlenwein

Good evening Staten Island Technical High School families,

I want to start by saying thank you for your patience, understanding and support with the on-going concerns around COVID-19, and the rapidly changing news and updates that are developing and soon-to-be officially shared by NYC DOE officials.

Safety is first and foremost a top priority and concern for our school community. Today and this evening, deep cleaning of our building (especially classrooms) is underway and ongoing, and will continue as per the NYC DOE’s newly instated deep cleaning protocols. At this time, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Staten Island Technical High School for any staff or students. I will continue to keep you updated if this changes.

Some of you have inquired about attendance, instruction, sports, activities, events, parent-teacher conferences and next steps. Please continue to follow standard attendance procedures by contacting personnel for any reason a student is not attending school, and we will ensure that attendance will be properly recorded. More information on attendance protocols and procedures will be shared Friday, March 13th, along with official information and guidance on all of your questions.

Regarding instruction, many of you have been inquiring with suggestions and requests for blended / remote learning tools and solutions to be implemented. What many of you have been suggesting is exactly what we have been preparing for all week with our teachers via professional development. We are now just waiting for guidance on a few important details and procedures from the NYC School's Chancellor and the NYC DOE in order to proceed.

"Instruction" is one aspect of the many challenges we are facing together, and something I know is very important and on the minds of our school community. However, there are some other very critical aspects of school services we provide, which we want to make sure we have received detailed and clear answers, before moving forward with a more formally executed plan. It is important and in our utmost interest to best serve our school community whether in-person, or remotely.

When we can move forward and give the school community a clearer and more detailed message, we want to ensure that this message is as complete as possible. It is my understanding and hope that we will be able to do so in the immediate future.

Stay tuned for a dedicated page on our website for daily updates and resources.

Thank you so much for your support, positivity and unity.

Sincerely,

Mr. Erlenwein

Principal
