January Science Make-Up Lab Schedule

Students who have already missed one or two science labs must schedule a make-up lab via Naviance. Students who do not make-up labs prior to the end of the marking period will receive an F in science lab until the labs are completed.

Note: If a student doesn't make-up the necessary labs in science in a timely manner, not only will they receive an F, but according to the New York State Regents Board, they must be barred from taking the regents exam.

MAKE-UP LAB SCHEDULE & REGISTRATION DIRECTIONS

1.) Login to Naviance. (https://connection.naviance.com/fc/signin.php?hsid=siths)

2.) Click on the ABOUT ME tab.

3.) In the left navigation bar you will see SURVEYS TO TAKE.

4.) There will be two choices: sci make-up lab: January (week 1) and (week 2)

5.) Select week one for the first lab you missed, and week two if it is a subsequent missed lab.

This registration form MUST BE COMPLETED, at least ONE DAY prior to the make-up lab date. Your attendance is required once you make this appointment.

Over the past few years, Staten Island Tech has introduced and utilized various web-based services for maintaining communications with our students, parents and teachers for many purposes.

For example:

• SITHS Website (www.siths.org) which is an excellent resource for viewing information regarding upcoming events, news items, homework assignments, PTA information, and much more.

• Naviance (https://connection.naviance.com/fc/signin.php?hsid=siths) searching for careers and colleges, as well as facilitating the entire College Application process.

• Easy Grade Pro / Edline (www.edline.net), which enables students and parents the ability to view their class grades and progress.

• Daedalus, designed to provide you with additional parent/guardian/student requested information such as:

• Daily Attendance

• Marking Period Report Cards

• Unofficial Transcripts

• Intermediate & High School Standardized Test Score History

• Facilitate the further development of our paperless communications system

While we are proud to offer these services, we did make a statement at various PTA meetings this year that the PRIMARY GOAL was to condense the number of web-based services we are using to ONE, providing all information on ONE website with ONE username and ONE password. The expectation as to fulfilling this goal was long term with years anticipated to achieve. This was the case until we were approached by the company Datacation and introduced to a powerful service called Pupil Path. To our surprise, the ability to see this goal to fruition had become an instant reality. The end result is Phase One of migrating to one website.

As of February 1, 2011, SI Tech is using Pupil Path for the following services:

• Daily Attendance – Absence/Present for School (Previously Daedalus)

• Real Time Class/Period Attendance – See live attendance as each class/period proceeds. (New Feature)

• Daily HW Postings with Live Instant Grade Feedback (Previously www.siths.org, but without instant grades)

• Real Time Feedback on HW and Assessment Completion/Grades. (New Feature)

• Progress Reports (Previsouly Edline-Easy Grade Pro)

• Upcoming Event Schedule (Previously www.siths.org)

• Marking Period Report Cards (Previously Daedalus)

• Unofficial Transcripts (Previously Daedalus and ARIS)

• Intermediate & High School Standardized Test Score History (Previously Daedalus and ARIS)

• E-Mail Teacher, Guidance Counselors and Administration (Previously www.siths.org)

• Facilitate the further development of our paperless communications system (all websites)

• Homework Submissions (Coming September)

On February 2nd, all students received STUDENT and PARENT registration codes to Pupil Path. Nearly 100% of our teachers are using this service for the above listed features. The S.I. Tech website will remain for web presence and it’s communicative features, but HW will no longer be posted there. In essence, we have replaced FOUR websites with ONE. Naviance also remains because of its powerful College Admissions features and paperless application process.

There will be support and training meetings for teachers, students and parents throughout the spring, so stay tuned.

College Now Transcript Request Kingsborough

Upon graduation from high school, each Kingsborough Community College Now student will have an official college transcript on file at Kingsborough Community College. To request that a transcript be forwarded to a college, students must complete Kingsborough's Official Transcript Request form. To obtain the form students must go to:

Military Opt Out Notification

Federal law requires the New York City Department of Education (DOE) to provide names, addresses, and telephone numbers of 11th and 12th grade high school students to military recruiters and institutions of higher education that request this information, except where the parent or student opts out by notifying the DOE in writing that he/she does not consent to release this information. If you wish to opt out, please download and fill out this notification and return it to Mr. Manzo. If a paper version is needed please acquire it from the student's guidance counselor.

OPENING SCHEDULE

Wednesday, September 9th will be the first day of school for students. All students will report to school for 7:45 a.m. homeroom and a full day of classes. Students will enter the school through the cafeteria at the rear of the building. Please present your school photo ID upon entering the building. Please bring notebooks, pens and pencils, etc. to school. Lunch will be available for purchase.

Students will receive program cards, transportation passes and bell schedules in homeroom. New locks have been placed on all lockers and some lockers have been reassigned. You will receive your locker assignment and new combination in homeroom. Please safeguard this information and do not share your combination with anyone.

DRESS CODE

Students must dress appropriately for school. Students should not wear shirts with spaghetti straps, shirts that do not cover the midriff, muscle shirts, or short shorts. The Chancellor’s Regulations also do not permit headwear or personal electronic devices, including cell phones, in school.

SENIORS

The SENIOR CLASS PICTURE will be taken on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Seniors will meet Mr. McCarthy and Ms. Grunwald in the auditorium at the end of the school day. If your day ends earlier than 2:30 p.m., please wait in the S.O. Store until 9th period ends.

During the first week of September an updated STUDENT PROFILE Excel document (similar to NHS version with slight revisions) will be e-mailed to you (and also available for download via the SI Tech website) to be completed, one last time at the beginning of the school year. This document must be completed by all seniors. Be sure to locate the Student Profile document you used for NHS this past May. You will be copying and pasting most of the information you originally provided. More information will follow in September.

Register now for fall SAT Prep Classes at SI Tech

After much collaboration, reviewing of vendor proposals, and schedule arranging, the Staten Island Tech PTA is excited to announce that Academic Advantage, Kaplan Test Prep, Power Score, Prestige Prep, Princeton Review, Revolution Prep and Sylvan have agreed to offer to our students, at an affordable price, a comprehensive SAT program at Staten Island Tech.

To address the needs of all parties, primary consideration was given to overall scheduling, price, class and make-up dates, time, examination dates, after-school activities, and building and administrative staff availability.

The specific program offered by each vendor is summarized in the attached document(s). Carefully read the program information provided and direct all your questions to the “Company Representative” indicated. The SI Tech PTA absolves itself from any liability due to an agreement entered into by an individual and vendor. For questions pertaining to information provided by the vendor that is contrary to what is stated in the attached documents, please contact Dawn Macchia at MiniMac62@aol.com.

Registration is expected to be completed by you directly, with the vendor of your choice, on or before September 4th, 2009, in order to achieve the stated commencement date and to ensure your spot in the program of your choice.

Payment for the SAT program is to be arranged directly with the vendor. Please do not submit your payment to the PTA or to Staten Island Tech.

Please note that limited scholarships may be made available to SELECTED student applicants. Scholarship selection criteria will be based on (1) vendor student registration, (2) family need as reflected on Lunch Applications for those student applicants currently receiving free lunch, and (3) other previously documented financial information on file with the school.
